Chemilink™ SS-254

Liquid Applied Acrylic Waterproofing Coating

Chemilink™ SS-254 is a liquid-applied, single component waterbrone acrylic waterproofing membrane. It can be used for both exposed and hidden system. No liquid plasticiser, coal tar or bitumen is added to the product. Being elastomeric, it exhibits rapid recovery. Chemilink™ SS-254 can be applied by roller, brush or airless spray. The coloured system is designed to ensure that sufficient thickness is applied by visual inspection. The inherent toughness and resilience of Chemilink™ SS-254 membrane enable itself to bridge structural or shrinkage cracks which may manifest in the substrate.

Typical Applications

Chemilink™ SS-254 may be used for surfaces that require a membrane for protection from water damage. application examples for residential, commercial or industrial purposes are as following waterproofing system for:

  • Concrete, tiled and metal roof (with noise deadening effect);
  • External wall, lift and inspection pits;
  • Concrete water and fish tanks and swimming pools (hidden);
  • Kitchen and toilet floor (hidden).

Application Procedure


Remove all loose materials by high pressure water jetting (> 1400psi or 100 bar); Remove oil with household detergent. Repair defective areas, where possible reduce the surface irregularities to reduce material consumption and achieve superior performance. Water saturated substrates will exhibit “blistering”; e.g. loose layed roof slabs and ground slabs. Refer to Curing and Protection Section for prevention of blisters formation. Where uplifting pressure is expected, Chemilink™ SS-255 may be used to prevent blistering and de-bonding.


Stir Chemilink™ SS-254 with a batten or very low speed mechanical mixer before use (½ to 1 minute.)


apply a liberal coat to all weak areas and cracks and allow to dry out for at least two hours


dilute with clean water, 5% to 10% by volume (porous substrate requires a lower dilution). Apply liberally without “ponding” and allow it to dry to touch, about 1 hour.

First Coat

apply the first coat in cross direction without dilution, 0.4mm wft (0.2mm dft). On drying, about 1 hour, touch up areas where it is too thin. Allow it to dry at least 1 hour.

Second Coat

apply a second coat as above. After 2 to 4 hours drying time, the coating will withstand foot trafficking and screeding. For water tightness test allow at least 4 hours drying time. At 0.3mm dft the substrate cannot be seen, except Neutral.

Curing and Protection

For multiple coating applications, the coating should be allowed to cure 2 to 4 hours before proceeding with subsequent coats. Blister may appear if more than 4 hours water contact takes place before full cure. To prevent “blisters” or “bubbles”, two methods are recommended:

  1. Provide vacuum suction or vent-port at substrate weak points, i.e. cracks, joints and porous area, which can be subsequently sealed, on drying.
  2. Weight down with 25mm wire-net reinforced screed. Surface cracking may be observed when applied in thickness greater than 1mm. This however will not affect its waterproofing property when subsequent coat(s) fill up these surface cracks.

Package, Coverage & Storage

Package : 25kg/pail
Coverage : Varies with surface texture and porosity. A site trial is recommeded. The dry film thickness should be between 0.5mm and 1.0mm for each coating layer.
Suggested Usage : To cover 1m² at 1mm dft thickness needs about 1.6kg of SS-254
Shelf Life : 6 to 12 months from date of manufacture when stored sealed in a cool and dry place


Under normal use, this product will not pose any health hazard. Protective clothing, gloves and goggles should be worn during use. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
